[33] Zealand Trail to Zealand Notch and Zealand Falls Hut
GPS @44.224844,-71.478381
The Zealand Road mostly follows the grade of J.E. Henry’s old Zealand Valley Railroad. Where the road ends, the Zealand Trail begins, allowing continued travel on foot where rails once lay. The path follows the general course of the Zealand River past beaver ponds and through restored forest in what was a clear-cut, burned-over wasteland in the early 1900s. At 2.5 miles, the trail reaches an intersection where you can follow the Ethan Pond Trail (part of the Appalachian Trail) or take the Twinway Trail for .3 miles to Zealand Falls, the AMC’s Zealand Falls Hut and a view of Zealand Notch.
